Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Tether, a macOS focus application ("Tether," "we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using Tether, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. The service
Tether is a macOS application that, during a focus session you initiate, observes your foreground activity, classifies it against the task you set, and nudges you when you appear to drift off-task. It also stores session recaps so you can review your focus over time. Tether requires a Tether account and an active subscription (or free trial) to use.
2. Eligibility & accounts
You must be at least 13 years old to use Tether. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate account information.
3. Subscriptions & billing
- Tether is offered as a monthly subscription at $4.99 USD per month, beginning with a 3-day free trial.
- A valid payment method is required to start the free trial. You will not be charged during the trial.
- If you do not cancel before the trial ends, your subscription automatically begins and your payment method is charged $4.99, and then $4.99 each month thereafter, until you cancel.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details. By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe's terms.
- Prices may change. We will give you reasonable notice of any price change before it takes effect; continued use after the change constitutes acceptance.
4. Cancellation & refunds
- You may cancel at any time from Settings → Manage subscription inside the app, which opens a secure Stripe billing portal.
- If you cancel during the free trial, you will not be charged.
- If you cancel a paid subscription, it remains active until the end of the current billing period, after which it will not renew. You keep access until then.
- Because a free trial lets you fully evaluate Tether before paying, monthly charges are generally non-refundable, except where required by applicable law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us and we'll make it right.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to: reverse-engineer, decompile, or tamper with the app except as permitted by law; resell or redistribute the app or your account; use the app to violate any law; or attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to our systems.
6. Your data
Your use of Tether is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and how we handle it. You can delete your account and associated data at any time from Settings.
7. Intellectual property
Tether and its content, design, and software are owned by us and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app for personal use while your subscription is active. The data you create (your sessions and settings) remains yours.
8. Disclaimers
Tether is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Tether is a productivity aid; we do not guarantee any particular outcome, level of focus, or productivity result. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of Tether. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
10. Termination
You may stop using Tether and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or to comply with the law. On termination, your right to use the app ends.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The "Last updated" date reflects the current version, and we'll notify you of material changes. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
